Muscat Malayalees, a Facebook group dedicated to expatriates from the south Indian state of Kerala, recently organised a musical event to celebrate its fifth anniversary.
The programme, inaugurated by H E Indra Mani Pandey, India's Ambassador to Oman, was led by Malayalam playback singers Ravishankar and Preetha Kannan.
“Over 22,000 members share their thoughts and images on our Facebook page. Our group is only active online and so there is no hierarchy. We have a section dedicated to spreading awareness on the importance of following traffic rules. We also feature job vacancies and news updates to help our members. The group is also involved in charitable activities like blood donations,” said Rakesh Vaipooru and Monaz Rasheed, founders of the group.
“All posts uploaded on the page are scrutinised by an expert panel. This has helped us to stay away from controversies,” the founders said.
